An 18-hole course with a wide variety of different situations, San Lorenzo offers players a real festival of golf amidst the pine-trees, lakes and beaches of the Algarve coast. Situated in the exclusive tourist resort of Quinta do Lago and forming part of the Parque Natural da Ria Formosa, the course is a very challenging and imaginative one.
The most exciting part of the course begins after hole number 5 with a view over some truly magnificent beaches; then, at the eighth hole, it turns back inland towards the larger of its two lakes. For the next four holes, however, the course again turns seawards and ends with a par 4, where the green is surrounded by the second of the two lakes. A remarkable end to a course that requires you to use all the clubs in your bag, and where you can find 67 different species of birds.
San Lorenzo is considered by the Golf World magazine to be one of the five best golf courses in Europe and was voted the best course in Portugal in the biennial poll organised by the European Golf magazine. |
