Big game fishing

Fishing has always been an important activity in Portugal; its waters are rich in fish and possess unrivalled conditions.

The Portuguese coast has already staged a number of international big game fishing competitions, underlining the quality of the country’s waters.

Tavira and Vilamoura in the Algarve and the islands of Madeira and the Azores are among the best locations in the world for open water fishing. They provide fishing fans with an unforgettable day out.

You can catch swordfish, tuna or shark, but one thing is certain in this sport: small fish don’t count.
In all the prime big game fishing locations, you’ll find companies that organise fishing trips. If you have difficulty finding a boat to take you out, hotel receptions, marinas or sailing clubs can always put your angling adventure on the right track.
