At the spas of Chaves, Pedras Salgadas, Carlão or Carvalhelhos, discover the relaxing powers of the northern mountain waters.

There is a great historical legacy to the thermal waters of Chaves. How about visiting the spas that the Emperor Flavius Vespasianus (Vespasian) once frequented? The springs bubble up at a temperature of 73 degrees centigrade and have been used for healing purposes since records began. And while you’re in Chaves, why not take advantage of your visit to discover more about this friendly city and its rich heritage?

In the foothills of the Barroso mountain, you’ll find the spa of Carvalhelhos, an excellent place to rest, set amidst a landscape of chestnut and oak trees.

Take a trip to the spa of Vidago while you’re in the area. Dating from the beginning of the 20th century and decorated in the Art Deco style, Vidago Palace is also well worth a visit.
You can relax by walking in the surrounding woodland, or take a dip in the palace’s swimming pool. If you prefer to be even more active, how about a good bike-ride, or perhaps you could go horse riding or play some tennis?

The last spa on our list is nationally famous, providing the Água das Pedras mineral water so popular throughout the country. You can discover its source at the spa of Pedras Salgadas. Its pleasant park, horse-riding centre and golf course will all help to make your holiday a memorable one.
