Museu À Descoberta do Novo Mundo (Discoveries Museum)
Situated in Belmonte, the “Discovering the New World” Interpretation Centre pays tribute to an important chapter in world history – the period of the Portuguese maritime discoveries, as an element that unified these newly-found worlds.
Housed in the former home of the family of Pedro Álvares Cabral, who discovered Brazil in 1500, the museum has provided the region with a new cultural and social centre, offering visitors a series of different support services, such as a documentation centre, café and archives.
The exhibition makes it possible for visitors to study the history of the Portuguese discoveries in an interactive way, using some of the most recent technologies placed at the service of museums. In this way, they are able to become fully immersed in a world of dreams, sensations and emotions. |
