The cold and rough waters of Peniche are a paradise for Portuguese divers. Not only to observe marine life, but for the popular sport of underwater fishing. The national championship is held here each year. This event is considered the best way to see fish of the west coast up close.

Further south, Sines in the Alentejo province is another favoured location.

You may be lucky enough to meet a local diver here, if you’re in a boat, or on the beach.

The windy coast of the Algarve is another rich fishing ground. Sagres and Lagos are the preferred destinations for local divers. Lagos has hosted international championships and continues to offer the possibility a good catch.
