The home of poet José Régio (1901-1969), while he was a teacher in Portalegre, became a museum in 1971 thanks to the Municipal Council. With the inside untouched on the wishes of the poet, there is an extensive collection of religious and regional art collected throughout the course of the poet's life.

The exhibition includes a remarkable collection of over 400 Christs on the Cross with the oldest dating back to the gothic period of the 15th century. There are also shrines, oratorios, objects donated to the church and other examples of popular religious expression in addition to pieces produced in more traditional fashion in cork and forged iron.
