Travel the Alentejo Wine Route through vast vineyards stretching as far as the eye can see.

The Alentejo, once enormous wheat fields, is today rolling vineyards. This hot region now produces some of Portugal’s best wine.

The Alentejo region is not only famous for its wines, but also for the Serra de S. Mamede Natural Park and the walled towns of Castelo de Vide and Marvão. You’ll discover places of great beauty and tradition, like Portalegre, Crato and Alter do Chão, where Lusitanian horses are trained at the country’s most famous stud farm.

On your journey, you’ll visit the picturesque towns of Montemor-o-Novo, Arraiolos, Estremoz, Vila Viçosa and Monsaraz, where the castle dominates the village, and finally Évora, a World Heritage site.
Further south, on the banks of the River Guadiana and the Alqueva Dam, Mourão, Moura, Vidigueira, Alvito and Viana do Alentejo are important towns that are well worth a visit. They are perfect examples of Alentejo’s rich, well-preserved heritage, where low, whitewashed houses contrast with black cobbled streets. With their peaceful atmosphere, these small towns are ideal for relaxing on your holiday.
