Either on foot or by bike, head out along the crystalline waters of the streams and rivers and explore the fauna and flora of the Caramulo nature reserve. At the peak of Serra do Caramulo, some 1075 metres in altitude, you’ll find an excellent site for gliding. The ‘Caramulinho Slide’ provides a sharp drop of some 300 metres over the spectacular Vale de Besteiros landscape, ending gently in the smooth green of the field below. This will provide a stern test of your gliding ability.
If you are in search of another adrenalin rush, try rafting down the white water rapids of the Serra’s watercourses, evading natural obstacles and paddling the straits. Those who prefer calmer waters can try canoeing on the Barragem da Aguieira reservoir.
Match these adventurous pursuits with excursions to the traditional villages of Caramulinho or Marruage or, alternatively, visit the Museum of the Automobile, one of the best of its kind in the world.
