Whitewashed houses in the heart of the country, often small villages restored for country tourism. Discover the pleasures of staying in an Alentejo farmhouse!

Standing alone, and set in the heart of the countryside in natural surroundings, Alentejo farmhouses are an ideal place to relax. The houses are whitewashed with blue or yellow friezes, and are often small villages in the middle of the plain, surrounded by nature and cornfields as far as the eye can see.

In the Alentejo, Tourism in the Country goes at a leisurely pace. Its main architectural inspiration is the use of old farm buildings called montes, properties that bear witness today to the rural nature of some of the villages of this region of Portugal.

In Alentejo you can find montes to suit all tastes, many of them offering activities which will fill the days of your family holidays, such as walking, horse-riding, cycling, water-skiing on lakes and reservoirs.
Here are a few suggestions: Monte do Chora Cascas (Montemor-o-Novo), Casa de Peixinhos (Vila Viçosa) and Herdade da Negrita (Moura).

Take this opportunity also to learn about the region's historical riches and well-preserved architecture, by visiting the towns of Évora, Estremoz, Vila Viçosa and Beja, or by following the Alentejo Wine Route.
