Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora de Aires
A sanctuary in which a statue of the former patron saint, Nossa Senhora da Piedade, is venerated. The statue shows Our Lady sitting with the dead body of Jesus in her arms, and is connected to a legend whereby help has always been provided to true believers, as confirmed by the countless offerings on display.
This baroque-style Sanctuary was designed by Father João Batista. Key aspects of the interior include the Rococo-style carved woodwork altar and the Ançã stone statue of the patron saint.
The pilgrimage, including a procession around the Sanctuary, takes place on the fourth Sunday in September. The fair of Aires is also held on this date.
