To start your journey, enjoy the fabulous sea view from the Atalaia viewpoint, up above Praia da Luz. Then in Lagos, where the Ponta da Piedade promontory protects the bay, take a swim and then explore the nearby caves.
Further down the coast off the Alvor beach, favourable winds encourage sailing and windsurfing. The beaches to the east then come in quick succession – Praínha, Três Irmãos, Vau and Praia da Rocha. Why not visit all of them and pick your favourite? In Rocha, visit the Santa Catarina Fortress and see another great view of the ocean.
Praia do Carvoeiro beach further down still offers caves to explore and the chance to see the distinctive Algar Seco rock formation.
Nearby, at Senhora da Rocha, spread your towel on one of two beaches separated by a rock tunnel. After a swim you can climb up to the cliff top chapel to enjoy the views.
A visit to Albufeira beach marks the latter half of your tour. While small, it’s very picturesque; with its traditional fishing boats and access via a rock tunnel. Heading towards Faro, you’ll find the wonderful Santa Eulália, the small Balaia and Falésia and the pretty Vilamoura. All are long, open beaches lying under a series of ochre cliffs. Cruising these waters by boat or jet ski is not to be missed.
