The Praia d'El Rey golf course is part of a resort between the Serra d'El Rey mountains and the sea. On the course, you can see three distinct types of scenery: the first nine holes are in a pine grove and the second nine holes run next to the sea. Catch a glimpse of the Isle of Berlengas from hole two, take in the scenery at hole 11 and the sea view along the fairway of hole 12. You’ll also need to pay attention to a change in wind direction at hole 14, and to the strength of gusts for the 570 metres of hole 17.
Some 30 minutes from Óbidos, you’ll find the Golden golf course. With a typically American layout designed by Rocky Roquemore, the course covers an area of 90 hectares.
It is surrounded by colourful vegetation: pine trees, eucalyptuses, acacias and mimosas, typical of this region. When you reach hole three, you’ll have to hit your ball over a lake if you want to equal par four; and at hole 15, on the second stroke, there are trees growing on the fairway making your round even harder.
In this region, you’ll find a third course, that of Real, part of the resort of Torres Vedras. While you’re here don’t miss out on a visit to the town of Óbidos, or nearby Lisbon.
