Sea, river, streams, dams and lakes; test your skill with water sports in the Minho.

The white waters and strong currents of the river Minho are perfect for water sports, especially rafting in an inflatable dinghy. As well as a towel and a change of clothing, you’ll need a good dose of courage too!

Upstream from Amarante, the river Tâmega also has excellent rafting conditions. Paddle around natural obstacles alongside the characteristic green banks in the heart of the Minho.

In the Peneda Gerês National Park, there are some of the best places in the country to go canyoning.
Scale the watercourses and waterfalls and challenge nature face on.

And at nearby Castelo de Paiva, try the 6-kilometre route along the river Paiva, the national centre for white water sports, where magnificent natural scenery is accompanied by sightings of herons and other wildlife.
