Flor da Rosa village
Place: Flor da Rosa

Rose Flower (Flor da Rosa) - a poetic name for a village that grew around a large monastery that was once the headquarters of the Knights of the Order of Malta.

When the Order of Malta was suppressed, what remained was a peaceful village and the old Flor da Rosa monastery with its battlement walls. Now carefully restored as a Pousada, it still preserves the austere beauty that was created by the knight-monks. Discover the village slowly, visiting the old fountain, a small 17th-century palace (where you can spend the night) and the craftsmen who still carefully work the local granite.

In an atmosphere that is more rustic than sophisticated, discover the local cuisine.
Try sarapatel (a dish made from pig’s blood) or tecolameco (a dessert of eggs and almonds). And wash it all down with the perfect accompaniment: wine from the Portalegre region.

If you like horses, then you should make sure to visit the stud farm at Alter do Chão, where the thoroughbred Lusitano horse is bred.

And further away, discover the city of Portalegre and the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park, where you won’t be able to resist taking a walk in the beautiful countryside.
