Alentejo Wine Route
The climate in Alentejo is ideal for producing fine quality wines. And that’s why this wine route is a must!
The history of this Portuguese region has been shaped by peoples like the Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans and Arabs who brought Mediterranean habits and influenced Alentejo’s cuisine, now based on bread, wine and olive oil. It has lovely countryside and well-preserved historical and architectural treasures.
Compulsory stopping points on the Alentejo Wine Route are the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation in Évora, Herdade dos Coelheiros in Igrejinha, Arraiolos, Roquevale, Monte Branco, Redondo and Herdade do Esporão in Reguengos de Monsaraz.
Enjoy the aromatic flavours of Alentejo’s cuisine at the O Fialho Restaurant in Évora or at the A Bolota Castanha Restaurant in Terrugem, near Borba. And, don’t forget to try some of the regional products like Évora cheese or sericaia from Elvas.
And explore one of the most important collections of menhirs in Europe, at Cromelegue dos Almendres, near Évora.
