The most notable beach is Figueira da Foz, with its promenade, esplanades, hotels and casino. It’s a long beach where you can play football and basketball - it even has tennis courts. Parallel to the road is a cycle lane along which cyclists and skaters glide. It’s worth cruising Figueira’s seaside road in summer or winter, from one end to the other, up to Buarcos.

Follow the forest road in the direction of Quiaios, a pleasant village of small houses, and take advantage of the beach there. To the north, you’ll find the Vela and 3 Braços lagoons, which contain particularly wild fauna. Head off towards the beach at Tocha. Don’t miss the old straw storehouses, constructed of wood from the region’s forests.

Continue along the forest road to Mira beach where xávega art and cereal storehouses dominate the beach.

All along the coast towards Aveiro, don’ t miss out on the dunes, and in particular the São Jacinto dune reserve, a particularly good place for observing nature.

The beaches at Barra and Costa Nova and their picturesque beach houses (traditional small houses painted in vertical stripes of vivid colour) denote the meeting point of sea and estuary. You can try out windsurfing here or enjoy the placidity of the estuary waters.
