Golf around Lisboa
For golfers who like a challenge, the courses between Sintra, Estoril and Cascais are the ideal holiday location.
Outside Lisbon, golf lovers can find carefully maintained courses in breathtaking scenery just a stone’s throw from the City.
The Belas course will test all your skill. Hole 18 is a par four with a 180m drive to the green on the second shot, protected by a lake.
Near the Serra de Sintra, the golf course of Penha Longa has long hosted European competitions. Part of a luxury resort and once a convent, it offers a hilly course with magnificent views over the Serra and the sea. You can also take advantage of the nearby World Heritage town of Sintra for a picturesque walk.
Further to the south, the Quinta da Marinha Oitavos course is the newest in the region. Designed by the famous American architect Arthur Hills, it is the first course in Europe to be awarded the ‘Certified Signature Sanctuary/Gold’ of Audubon International. The course has some excellent views over the Castelo da Pena and the Cabo da Roca, and the rolling greens require careful putts.
In the evening, you can reserve a table for dinner at the Porto de Santa Maria Restaurant, or relax at the nearby hotel.
Whilst on holiday, why not also discover one of the largest sets of menhirs in Europe near Évora, on a visit to the Cromeleque dos Almendres?
