In the Western Algarve, the courses feature all kinds of obstacles to test the golfer’s skill. Start off by trying the Vale da Pinta championship course, which is lined by ancient trees. It was designed by Ronald Fream to offer differing levels of difficulty for golfers. Enjoy your break between rounds down on the picturesque Carvoreiro beach, sheltered by two large rocky headlands.
Laid out above a beach and under rolling hills, try the Palmares course with its challenging par 4 ‘dog-leg’. Play the Meia Praia links running along the white sandy dunes. From the clubhouse terrace, there are excellent views over the historical city of Lagos.
In the Central Algarve, the Ocean Course is part of the exclusive Vale de Lobo complex. Designed by Sir Henry Cotton, it lies just 15 km from Faro international airport. You can follow the golf with a meal in a seaside restaurant, a flutter at the casino or even one of the discos, on this cosmopolitan stretch of the Algarve.
Over to the east, there are some flatter courses looking out onto the beautiful landscape of the Ria Formosa Natural Park. Here, the twin courses of Quinta da Ria and Quinta de Cima, created by renowned course designer Rocky Roquemore, will test your golfing skills to the limit.
