Boat Trips in Porto
Place: Douro, Porto

Discover the charms and history of Porto with a boat trip on the river Douro.

Various companies in Porto run the Pontes (Bridges) cruise, a trip along the river Douro that provides a great way to see the northern capital.

Leaving from Gaia, the hour-long tour gives you the opportunity to learn a little more of the city’s history, as revealed by its characteristic bridges.

You’ll see the Pênsil Bridge, inaugurated in 1843, and the Maria Pia Bridge, the first major work of Gustavo Eiffel. Next you’ll go under the grandiose Luís I Bridge, designed by Teófilo Seyrig, Eiffel’s partner, before the Arrábida Bridge with its 270-metre span; for some time a world record holder for reinforced concrete bridges.
While enjoying the relaxing cruise, you’ll also notice how the dark buildings of the city seem to be stacked on top of one another along the narrow, labyrinthine streets.

The perfect excursion whilst on holiday, a trip down the river Douro provides the best and most complete views of Porto.
