Dave Douglas & Joey Baron

Dave Douglas & Joey Baron
Events
On 17th April, the Salão Brazil, in Coimbra, will host one of the most eagerly-awaited meetings of the year. The hall will receive trumpeter Dave Douglas and drummer Joey Baron, half of the formation of the historic Masada quartet, led by saxophonist and composer John Zorn. Not being from New York, it was this city that united them and allowed them, during the last four decades, this crossing with the jazz area and all the other possibilities around it.
They joined the quartet in 1993 and recorded numerous works throughout the rest of the 90s. Before this current reunion on stage, they celebrated the music of Dizzy Gillespie with a sextet led by Dave Douglas.
Dave Douglas (59) has over 60 albums out and has been nominated twice for the Grammys. He first came to New York to study in 1985 and became one of the most important and respected figures in jazz. He received a Doris Duke Award and a scholarship from the respected Guggenheim Foundation. He has played in sextet, quintet, quartet, trio or duo, electric or acoustic.
Joey Baron was in Bill Frisell's band for a decade and a member of Naked City. He played alongside names like Dizzy Gillespie, Carmen Mcrae, Tony Bennett, Chet Baker, Laurie Anderson, Stan Getz, David Bowie, Philip Glass or Al Jarreau.
Thus, and in the eyes of those who attend this concert, the Salão Brazil will be and give stage to another piece of history.
