On June 1st and 2nd, the Coala Festival will cross the Atlantic to hold its first edition outside Brazil. The international premiere will take place in Cascais, Portugal, and Gilberto Gil has already been confirmed on the program.
"Coala Festival was born in 2014 with the proposal of being a great stage for new Brazilian music in a context in which most festivals focused on international artists and bands. We became a reference in Brazil and now we're taking this identity to Portugal with a focus not just on Brazilian music, but on Portuguese-language music as a whole, uniting the tips of the Africa, Portugal and Brazil triangle," says Gabriel Andrade, founding partner and curator of the Coala Festival.
The proposal for this first Portuguese edition is to broaden horizons and deliver a line-up that combines Brazilian and Lusophone music. To this end, in addition to Gabriel Andrade, Coala Festival Portugal is also curated by Kalaf Epalanga - Angolan musician and writer and one of the founders of the band Buraka Som Sistema, which won the MTV Europe Music Awards three years in a row in the Best Portuguese Artist category.
