Events
The Soares dos Reis National Museum, in Porto, shows the photographic work of Mário Martins "De Passagem, Moçambique 1970–1973", with programming by The Cave Photography and curated by Mafalda Martins, Miguel Refresco, Rui Pinheiro and Sérgio Correia.
Mário Martins was born in Vila Real on June 25, 194. Like thousands of Portuguese, he was called to the Colonial War in 1970, mobilized against his will. He was in Mozambique and from there he brought the experiences presented in this exhibition, which reveal his social concern in a war that he considered senseless and that strengthened his affinity with the liberation movement of April 25, 1974. This universal language that is photography has always seduced him, but only in Mozambique has it been deeply imbued with his practice. A look at the gaze, revisiting this personal archive of original photographs, printed more than 50 years ago, is the proposal of this exhibition, 50 years after April.
