Frequently asked questions
What is RSS Video Podcasting (Vodcast) ?
From
Wikipedia
: Vodcast (a portmanteau of 'video podcast' or 'video on demand-cast') is an emerging term used for the online delivery of video on demand video clip content via RSS. The term is an evolution specialized for video, coming from the generally audio-based podcast.
How do I subscribe to an RSS Video Podcast Feed?
(1) Download and install a Podcast aggregator, such as
iTunes
,
iPodder
, or
Doppler
.
(2) Familiarize yourself with how the software works by reading the program's provided documentation.
(3) Add the address to the Podcast XML feed to your Podcast aggregator by either manually typing the address or by copying and pasting from the clipboard. (Consult your Operating System or Browser documentation for more information on copying web addresses to the clipboard).
When I click on a Podcast RSS link I see a bunch of code, and don't see the podcast
Podcast RSS Feeds are in XML format and are designed to be processed by a Podcast aggregator program installed on your computer.
Tell me more about RSS Video Podcast aggregators.
Using an RSS Video Podcast aggregator program, you subscribe to an RSS Video Podcast feed. Identical in operation to an RSS News aggregator, a Podcast aggregator automatically and regularly checks feeds to which you've subscribed. When a new Podcast is available, and when the aggregator checks to see if a new Podcast is posted, the aggregator retrieves the new Podcast and alerts you that a new Podcast is available.
What is special about RSS Video Podcasts?
Podcast aggregator programs enable you to:
(1) see the Podcast on your computer and/or
(2) copy the Podcast video file to your Ipod so you can see the Podcast when you are away from your computer.
How do I see an RSS Video Podcast after I subscribe?
How you see an RSS Video Podcast depends on your computer's Operating System and the Podcast aggregator you are using. Seeing an RSS Podcast typicaly involves two steps:
(1) Downloading the latest video files in the Podcast to your computer
(2) Opening the video files in an video player (i.e. Windows Media Player, iTunes, etc) that is compatible with the file format. Some Podcast aggregators combine these steps into one step; however, some Podcast aggregators require that you highlight the Podcast, select Download, and then select Open/Play. For more details on how to download and see an RSS Podcast subscription, consult your Podcast aggregator's documentation.
This seems a little complicated...
Podcasting may seem complicated because it is a new use of Internet technologies. As such, all Podcast aggregators are very "young" and the process today is a bit "messy," requiring multiple programs and the latest equipment. Like all new technologies, this one should mature. The Visitportugal team is keeping up with developments in the field of Podcasting and will update this page as new programs and technologies emerge.
