Matosinhos Municipal Library's building was designed by an architect born in the city - Alcino Soutinho - who also designed the interior equipment and furniture.
The library was opened in 2005 and received the name of Florbela Espanca in homage to the Portuguese poetess who spent the last years of her life in Matosinhos.
