Stay Cool – Keep exploring Portugal

Long, sunny days invite you to enjoy Portugal outdoors, explore each destination at your own pace and discover everything you find along the way. When temperatures rise, adapting the way you explore can help you make the most of every moment of your trip.

With the Climate Refuge Network | Stay Cool, you can find spaces designed to provide greater thermal comfort during periods of intense heat. By alternating outdoor experiences with cooler places, you can adapt your itinerary to different times of the day and continue discovering each destination in comfort. Along the way, look out for the Stay Cool sign, which indicates spaces where you can find greater comfort on warmer days.

Make the most of every summer day
On warmer days, adapting your itinerary and schedule can help you continue discovering Portugal in greater comfort. A few simple choices can make a difference:
1. Start earlier or explore later in the day - Plan outdoor activities for the morning and late afternoon, when temperatures tend to be more comfortable.
2. Alternate between outdoor and cooler spaces - Combine walks around the city with visits to museums, monuments, libraries, gardens and other Climate Refuges.
3. Choose shaded routes - Whenever possible, opt for tree-lined streets, parks, gardens and other spaces protected from direct sunlight.
4. Stay hydrated - Carry water with you and drink regularly throughout the day.
5. Adapt your pace - Take your time and adjust your plans to the weather conditions and the needs of those travelling with you.
