Monuments
Church of São Clemente, Parish Church of Loulé
A Gothic style church, originally built in the 13th century but subject to architectural restoration in the 16th century.
Key features include the pointed arch doorway on the façade, and the Gothic lateral doorway. The bell tower, resulting from adaptation of a Muslim minaret, is decorated in baroque style. There is an ancient column, of unknown origin, inserted within the tower, next to the door.
The three-nave interior includes capitals decorated with sculpted leaves that may be the work of Muslim artists. The columns, of different heights, seem to have been built from Roman or Arab materials. On the main altar, we can see an 18th-century gilded woodwork altarpiece with statues from the same era.
