Monuments
The present-day church was rebuilt over the earlier chapel dedicated to the same saint, the Virgin Mary, and replaced the town's old parish church, which was located at the time in the place known as Salvador.
Situated close to Praça Dr. Eugénio Duas, a square that has a clearly Pombaline architectural layout, the church has an imposing façade with two towers.
The nave is high and well-lit, connecting to the chancel through a monumental triumphal arch.
The church's treasures include an extremely valuable monstrance, which is currently kept at the Lisbon Patriarchate.
