Parish Church of Olhão
The Parish Church was the first stone building in Olhão, built using donations made by fishermen between 1698 and 1715.
The ample interior is covered by a barrel-vaulted ceiling. In the main chapel, which has an 18th-century gilded woodwork triumphal arch and altarpiece, visitors may appreciate the fresco painting on the ceiling and a 17th-century statue of Nossa Senhora do Rosário. The side altars, also decorated with carved woodwork altarpieces, contain several 18th-century statues including Christ on the cross and one of the Apostles. The Sacred Treasury contains priestly garments and gold and silverware, complemented by a set of 17th and 18th-century statues.
The Chapel of Nossa Senhora dos Aflitos is located near the church, much appreciated by the local fishermen.
