In Uprising, by Hofesh Shechter, seven men emerge from the shadows to fill the stage with furious energy, bonding and fighting, making up and falling out again. They are driven by a force that seems to take them further and further, before disappearing into the darkness. This is a highly contagious and energetic piece, which includes a pulsating percussion score, written by the creator himself. Premiered in 2006, this piece is now part of CNB's repertoire and is written by one of today's most vibrant choreographers.
The second piece in this program, Triple Bill, is a new creation by Vasco Wellenkamp. Considered a leading figure in contemporary Portuguese dance, Wellenkamp has carried out various projects that have contributed to the development of this stage art, including the creation of the Companhia Portuguesa de Bailado Contemporâneo and the artistic direction of the CNB between 2007 and 2010. His artistic legacy is unique: his creativity lives in a state of permanent ebullience.
The evening ends with Minus 16, which has a markedly eclectic musical score - from Dean Martin to mambo, and from techno to traditional Israeli music. In this piece, Ohad Naharin uses improvisation and his acclaimed 'Gaga' method, which is based on understanding and researching movement through the connection between body and mind. Naharin started from previous pieces to develop a new work, carrying out a reorganization work that allowed him to look at his creations from different angles, while maintaining a stylistic coherence. His tendency to get the audience dancing at the end is confirmed.
