Portuguese Porcelain: The Harmony of Contraries

Portuguese Porcelain: The Harmony of Contraries
Events
This is an unprecedented exhibition that celebrates the legacy of the old Portuguese ceramics and porcelain factories of the 18th and 19th centuries. Many of these factories, once vibrant centers of artisanal production, are now extinct or gradually disappearing. The exhibition pays tribute to the master potters of emblematic locations such as Viana do Castelo, Caldas da Rainha, Alcobaça, Ílhavo, Águeda, Coimbra, Porto, Sacavém and Lisbon, rescuing their invaluable know-how from oblivion.
More than a historical exhibition, this initiative proposes an aesthetic reinterpretation of the pieces, highlighting their artistic, technical and heritage value, while stimulating a dialog between tradition and innovation. Each object on display bears witness to a time, a gesture or a memory, sometimes challenging the contemporary eye with unexpected and provocative proposals, sometimes delicately evoking the nostalgic beauty of a past that persists in the collective memory. The exhibition thus invites reflection on the role of the craftsman and cultural heritage in the construction of new artistic languages.
