Launched in 2011 by the Center for Iberian Studies, the ""Transversalities – Photographs without Borders" project highlights the importance of the image in contemporary societies, promoting photography as an aesthetic, documentary and pedagogical tool to enhance less visible territories and foster dialogue and cooperation. Inspired by the ideals of Eduardo Lourenço, the competition celebrates natural and cultural diversity, reinforcing the commitment to cohesive and inclusive territorial development. In the 13th edition (2024), photographers from more than 60 countries took part, with around 600 portfolios and 5,000 images, divided into four themes: nature, rurality, urbanization and cultural diversity.
