Ethnographic Village
Events
The Ethnographic Village offers a hands-on experience of Madeira’s traditions, crafts, cuisine, and folklore, including two traditional nativity scenes.
Outside, the traditional Madeiran nativity scene recreates the island’s natural and human-shaped landscape, featuring vegetation, terraced fields, valleys, ravines, houses, and haylofts. Inside, the stepped nativity scene features characteristic elements such as the Baby Jesus, the small basket of fruit, the sheaves of wheat, and the gift-bearer. The venue also offers a chance to sample regional cuisine, with wheat soup and bolo do caco available for purchase exclusively for takeout.
