Commissioned by King Sebastião in the 16th century, by charter of 1571, the Church of Fronteira or Nossa Senhora da Atalaia underwent several renovations over the centuries until its completion.
The main façade, highlighted by wall corners of dressed stone, has two square towers. The interior is divided into three vaulted naves, with the high altar in marble and the other altars in Baroque giltwork, the altarpiece in marble from Estremoz and Mannerist paintings from the late 16th century.
