Helena Almeida- Inhabiting the work
Helena Almeida- Inhabiting the work
Events
Helena Almeida (Lisbon, 1934-2018) is one of the most important Portuguese artists, whose work, since the 1960s, has centered on the body as a performative space and presence. Initially, she explored the limits of abstract painting and pictorial space; from the 1970s onwards, photography became a privileged medium, with her studio and fragmented body as recurring elements. By merging body and work, she questioned painting, drawing, sculpture and photography, crossing disciplinary boundaries. This exhibition, curated by Marta Moreira de Almeida and coordinated by Carlos Magalhães, is part of the Serralves collection's itinerant program, bringing art and audiences together across the country.
