The first retrospective dedicated to the drawings of Marisol Escobar (Paris, 1930- New York, 2016) brings together more than 100 works made from the 1950s until his death.
Presented in dialog with sculptures that expand drawing to three dimensions, archival materials and Andy Warhol films in which the artist participated, the works, mostly from the collection of the Buffalo AKG Art Museum, highlight drawing as the central axis of her practice. This medium served to articulate global issues, personal concerns and fictional narratives. The title evokes Leo Castelli's question in the decisive early 1950s.
