Here I Stand, Ângela Ferreira
Events
The practice of Ângela Ferreira, a key figure in the Portuguese art scene, combines installation, video, photography and sculpture. Born in Maputo, Mozambique, and trained in sculpture at the University of Cape Town during apartheid, her biographical background is closely linked to the themes of her work.
The exhibition at the MAC/CCB covers works from the early 1990s to recent productions, showing an ongoing investigation into the facts, infrastructures, characters and architectures associated with colonization. The projects analyse the persistent effects of colonialism and highlight practices of resistance, consolidating Ferreira as a pioneer in problematizing Portugal's contemporary colonial past.
