The opening of the Spain Exhibition is marked every two years with a “Guest Work,” which, in 2026, will be presented in the plural form through two pieces by Maruja Mallo.
"Basuras" (1930) and "Naturaleza viva" (1943) reflect different periods in the avant-garde artist’s work and engage in a dialogue with the theme “Spain in Motion: Diversity and Sustainable Futures.” The works also relate to the program’s themes dedicated to art, culture, the oceans, sustainability, ecology, climate change, borders, and rural life, taking viewers on a journey from prewar Madrid to exile in the United States, on the beaches of Valparaíso.
