Ecos e Sombras da Capela Real Portuguesa
Ecos e Sombras da Capela Real Portuguesa
Events
This concert takes listeners on a journey through the musical and religious world of the Passion of Christ, evoking the practices of the 16th-century Portuguese Royal Chapel.
At the heart of the program are the Chyrios das Trevas, the oldest polyphonic work of verified origin at that institution, dating from around 1500. The performance is complemented by Iberian motets, revealing the richness of the sacred repertoire and the circulation of musical works through manuscript sources. In a dimly lit setting, inspired by the Liturgy of the Hours of the Easter Triduum, the concert recreates the atmosphere of contemplation and spirituality that characterizes this musical tradition.
