"Save the Last Dance for Me," by Alessandro Sciarroni, draws on the rediscovery of the polka chinata—a traditional courtship dance from Bologna—to create a performance that blends cultural heritage with contemporary art.

Performed by Gianmaria Borzillo and Giovanfrancesco Giannini, the duet unfolds in a succession of circular movements, characterized by precision, balance, and trust between the performers.

Danced exclusively by men in the early 20th century, the polka chinata nearly disappeared but was revived thanks to the efforts of Giancarlo Stagni.

When he discovered this tradition in 2018, Sciarroni found only five practitioners. The show thus stands as a tribute to memory, helping to preserve this cultural expression and bring it back into the spotlight.
